How a product earns the right to be in your wall
Impact-rated does not mean a sticker. It means the assembly survived a lab, and the approval only holds if it is installed the way it was tested.
Test 01
Large missile impact
A timber missile is fired at the glazing. The assembly has to stop penetration — the glass may break, the barrier may not open.
Test 02
Cyclic pressure
Thousands of positive and negative pressure cycles simulate a storm passing over. The damaged unit still has to hold the pressure boundary.
Test 03
Product approval
Passing results become a Notice of Acceptance or a Florida Product Approval, listing the exact sizes, pressures and anchor patterns allowed.

Substitute an anchor, stretch the spacing, or install a unit larger than the approval allows, and the paperwork is void — whatever the label on the frame says. That match, opening by opening, is the work.

The four question that cost people money
Ask before the windows are on a truck, not after.
Yes. Replacing windows or doors changes the pressure boundary of the building, so it is a permitted alteration everywhere in South Florida — even when the new unit is the same size as the old one. Unpermitted replacements surface later at closing, at insurance renewal, or when the next permit is pulled.
Sometimes. It depends on what they are made of, their condition and whether the anchorage in the approval can be achieved through them. That gets decided at the opening, not from a photo — and it is cheaper to decide before the order than after delivery.
Because approval is conditional. Every NOA lists maximum sizes and rated pressures. The calculation proves your opening, in your zone, on your building, stays inside those limits. Without it, the reviewer has nothing to compare the approval against.
We can. Where a permit requires it, or where you want the anchorage verified before the stucco patch closes it up, that inspection can be added to the scope.
